How We Research

1. Safety rules first. For each product type we read the federal standard and the safe-use advice from the CPSC and the American Academy of Pediatrics, and build the guide around it.
2. Maker specs. Weight and age limits, sizes and features come from the maker's own manual or product page. Where an Amazon listing disagrees with the maker, we say so.
3. In stock in the US. Every pick was in stock on Amazon for a US delivery address on the day we checked. Prices change, so we show the price we saw.
4. Named sources. Every guide lists the pages it relies on. If a figure can't be sourced, we leave it out.
