Graco Car Seats: Every Type Compared by NHTSA Stage

Graco makes a car seat for every stage, from an infant seat to a backless booster, and the names don't tell you much about which is which. This page lines up six of them, all sold by Amazon and in stock when we checked, against the four car seat types the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) describes.
BabyGearLand isn't affiliated with Graco. The limits below come from each seat's Amazon listing, so check the label on the seat you buy.

Graco Car Seats by Type
#1 · Infant seat
Graco SnugRide Lite LX Infant Car Seat
| NHTSA type | Rear-facing (infant only) |
|---|---|
| Rear-facing | 4-30 lb, up to 32 in |
| Carrier weight | 7.2 lb |
| Base | 4 positions, level indicator |
| Model | 2110186 |
The SnugRide is Graco's infant seat line, and the Lite LX carrier weighs 7.2 pounds on the listing. It clicks in and out of a base that stays in the car, and onto Graco strollers that accept it.
The listing rates it rear-facing from 4 to 30 pounds and up to 32 inches. The base has four positions and a level indicator. NHTSA says infant seats can only be used rear-facing.
It was $139.97 from Amazon, with a 4.8 rating from about 7,700 reviews.
Good for
- Light carrier, clicks into Graco strollers
- Huge review base
Watch Out for
- Outgrown at 30 lb or 32 in
- Rear-facing only
#2 · Convertible (longest rear-facing)
Graco Extend2Fit 2-in-1 Convertible Car Seat
| NHTSA type | Rear-facing, then forward-facing |
|---|---|
| Rear-facing | 4-50 lb, up to 49 in |
| Forward-facing | 26.5-65 lb, harness |
| Legroom panel | Up to 5 in |
| Seat weight | 19 lb |
| Model | 2216092 |
The Extend2Fit is the Graco seat built around NHTSA's advice to keep children rear-facing as long as possible. The listing rates it rear-facing from 4 to 50 pounds, the highest rear-facing limit of these six, then forward-facing with the harness from 26.5 to 65 pounds.
A four-position panel pulls out to add up to 5 inches of legroom for taller toddlers who are still rear-facing. The harness and headrest adjust together without rethreading.
It's by far the most-reviewed Graco seat we found, with a 4.8 rating from about 57,300 reviews, at $239.99 from Amazon. It has no booster mode.
Good for
- Rear-facing to 50 lb
- Most reviews of any pick
Watch Out for
- No booster mode
- Panel adds depth
#3 · Convertible (slim)
Graco SlimFit 3-in-1 Convertible Car Seat
| NHTSA type | Rear, forward, booster |
|---|---|
| Rear-facing | 5-40 lb |
| Forward-facing | 26.5-65 lb, harness |
| Booster | Highback 40-100 lb |
| Width | 19.9 in |
| Model | 2215460 |
The SlimFit is Graco's narrow 3-in-1. The listing says its cup holders rotate away to make the seat 10% slimmer, which helps in a small back seat or with siblings side by side.
It covers three stages on the listing: rear-facing from 5 to 40 pounds, forward-facing with the harness from 26.5 to 65 pounds and a highback booster from 40 to 100 pounds. The harness adjusts without rethreading, with 10 headrest positions.
It was $229.99 from Amazon, with a 4.8 rating from about 1,900 reviews. It weighs 19.5 pounds and has no backless booster mode.
Good for
- Slim design for tight back seats
- Three stages in one seat
Watch Out for
- Rear-facing limit 10 lb lower than the Extend2Fit

#4 · All-in-one
Graco 4Ever DLX 4-in-1 Car Seat
| NHTSA type | All-in-one |
|---|---|
| Rear-facing | 4-40 lb |
| Forward-facing | 26.5-65 lb, harness |
| Booster | Highback 40-100 lb, backless 40-120 lb |
| Seat weight | 23 lb |
| Model | 2215486 |
The 4Ever DLX is Graco's all-in-one seat. The listing gives four stages: rear-facing from 4 to 40 pounds, forward-facing harness from 26.5 to 65 pounds, highback booster from 40 to 100 pounds and backless booster from 40 to 120 pounds.
Graco calls that 10 years of use. The headrest has 10 positions and the seat 6 recline positions to help with installation.
It's the priciest pick at $319.99 from Amazon and the heaviest at 23 pounds, with a 4.8 rating from about 2,600 reviews.
Good for
- From birth to backless booster
- Six recline positions
Watch Out for
- The most expensive pick
- Heavy to move between cars
#5 · Harness booster
Graco Tranzitions 3-in-1 Harness Booster
| NHTSA type | Forward-facing, then booster |
|---|---|
| Forward-facing | 26.5-65 lb, harness |
| Booster | Highback and backless, 40-100 lb |
| Headrest | 9 positions |
| Seat weight | 15.1 lb |
| Model | 2215750 |
The Tranzitions is for children who have outgrown rear-facing and are ready to face forward. It starts as a forward-facing seat with a harness from 26.5 to 65 pounds, then becomes a highback booster and finally a backless booster, both 40 to 100 pounds on the listing.
The listing notes that Graco raised the booster minimum from 30 to 40 pounds. The harness adjusts without rethreading, the headrest has 9 positions, and at 15.1 pounds it's light enough to move between cars.
It was $139.99 from Amazon, with a 4.7 rating from about 1,300 reviews. It doesn't face the rear, so it isn't a seat for babies or young toddlers.
Good for
- Harness to booster for about $140
- Light at 15.1 lb
Watch Out for
- No rear-facing mode
- Fewer reviews than the boosters
#6 · Booster
Graco TurboBooster 2.0 Highback Booster
| NHTSA type | Booster |
|---|---|
| Limits | 40-100 lb, 43-57 in |
| Modes | Highback and backless |
| Install | Vehicle seat belt |
| Belt guides | Open-loop |
| Model | 2184596 |
The TurboBooster is Graco's belt-positioning booster, the last step before a seat belt alone. NHTSA says a booster raises a child so the car's lap and shoulder belt fit over the hips and across the chest.
The listing rates it from 40 to 100 pounds and 43 to 57 inches, with a highback mode and a backless mode. It installs with the car's seat belt, and open-loop belt guides help children buckle themselves. The armrests and headrest adjust.
It's the cheapest pick at $69.99 from Amazon, with a 4.7 rating from about 5,300 reviews.
Good for
- About $70
- Highback and backless in one
Watch Out for
- No harness
- Only for children big enough for a booster

Not sure which stage your child is in? Our car seat stage finder applies NHTSA's rules to your child's age and your seat's limits.
Three Ways to Cover Every Stage
- One seat: the 4Ever DLX goes from rear-facing to backless booster.
- Two seats: a SnugRide infant seat for the first months, then a 4Ever DLX or SlimFit.
- Longest rear-facing: an Extend2Fit until your child outgrows it, then a TurboBooster.
NHTSA's installation rules apply to every Graco seat: install with the lower anchors or the seat belt, never both, and always use the top tether when the seat faces forward. Keep children in the back seat at least through age 12. A car seat inspection station, listed on NHTSA's website, can check your work.
How to Choose a Graco Car Seat
Rear-Facing Limit
Since NHTSA advises rear-facing as long as the seat allows, compare rear-facing limits first: 50 pounds on the Extend2Fit, 40 on the SlimFit and 4Ever DLX, and 30 on the SnugRide Lite LX.
Back Seat Space
The SlimFit is Graco's narrow option, 19.9 inches wide on its listing. The Extend2Fit's legroom panel makes it deeper when pulled out.
Moving Between Cars
If you switch cars often, check the weight: 7.2 pounds for the SnugRide carrier and 15.1 for the Tranzitions, against 23 pounds for the 4Ever DLX.
Register It
NHTSA says to register every car seat with its maker, by the card in the box or online, so you hear about recalls. Our article on car seat recalls explains how to check.

The Extend2Fit stays rear-facing longer, to 50 pounds, but has no booster mode. The 4Ever DLX faces the rear to 40 pounds and adds highback and backless booster modes, according to their listings.
Which Graco Seat Is Best for a Newborn?
Any of the four rear-facing seats here start at 4 or 5 pounds on their listings. The SnugRide is the only one you can carry out of the car.
Should I Replace a Graco Seat After a Crash?
NHTSA says to replace any car seat after a moderate or severe crash, and to follow the maker's instructions.
The Bottom Line
For one seat from birth, the Graco 4Ever DLX covers every stage. To keep your child rear-facing longest, choose the Extend2Fit, and for a tight back seat, the SlimFit. Start with a SnugRide if you want an infant seat you can carry. For older children, the Tranzitions moves from harness to booster and the TurboBooster is a simple booster for about $70.
